![]() In honor of this, we would like to thank Mike & Ken, and all Athletic Trainers and all they do for the community. March is National Athletic Training Month. Additionally, they co-teach a senior elective, Introduction to Sports Medicine, and provide First Aid and CPR training to our coaches, students, faculty and staff. They design and implement several health and wellness initiatives throughout the year. Not only do they take care of over 900 student-athletes each year, they are here to provide care to our faculty and staff. Xavier High School, and Ken Rushford is here full-time and contracted out from TriHealth. Xavier High School is honored to have two Athletic Trainers in our building. One can find an Athletic Trainer in a variety of settings including: professional sports, Olympic and Para Olympic Games, colleges/universities, high schools, industrial workplaces, corporate workplaces, armed forces, police/fire departments, performing arts and even health care systems including hospitals. Annual continuing education is required to keep up with the latest breakthroughs and current treatments in the medical community. In the State of Ohio, ATs then apply for Licensure in order to practice. Upon completion, they are eligible to sit for the National Board of Certification examination. So naturally that brings us to ask who are these health care heroes & what does their job description entail?Īccording to the National Athletic Trainers Association, "Athletic Trainers (ATs) are highly qualified, multi-skilled health care professionals specifically trained in the prevention, examination, diagnosis, treatment & rehabilitation of medical conditions and emergent, acute and chronic injuries." Athletic Trainers graduate with formally a Bachelors, now a Master's degree, from an CAATE accredited University. ![]() ![]() But these Athletic Trainers would tell you they were just doing their jobs.
